Grammy Awards Partner with MJD to Launch New Mobile & Tablet Application

Second-screen experience will feature unique live programming content, music and entertainment news, ability to buy songs through iTunes and Google, much more

Today the Grammy Awards officially launched an updated and improved application for mobile and tablet devices that will enhance and expand music fans’ experience of the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, as well as deliver a wide variety of original content and music purchasing capabilities.

The free application ( ) embraces and encourages society’s evolution towards a two-screen entertainment experience, offering exclusive camera angles of the awards show, as well as backstage coverage and an archived video library of selected Grammy Awards moments, among other user-centric upgrades.

“The Grammys knew they wanted an app that was more modern, pushed design forward, and that would set the baseline for future enhancements that we will be rolling out later this year,” said MJD president Michael Maginnis. “It required a revamp of the entire user experience and interface, a fresh design that had to be more intuitive, and a number of visual improvements that make the app more aesthetically pleasing.”

In addition to the video library and exclusive live streams, which will feature separate camera angles and perspectives of the show, the application offers:

>>> A year-round, continuously updated daily content feed of music and entertainment-related news articles, photos, and videos
>>> The ability to view and search Grammy nominations and winners from current and past years
>>> A Twitter stream aggregating Grammy related tweets
>>> The opportunity to purchase music from iTunes and Google Play music stores from each category’s winner in past years

The application was designed and developed by the award-winning digital innovation agency MJD, and will be available for both iOS and Android devices, running on both smartphones and tablets.

Key technology updates for the app include:

>>> A modern user experience with sleek new interface elements that make it easy to browse through the stream of content, creating a better user experience for discovering something new
>>> A new, more visually rich design with photos, slideshows and video content that come centrally into focus as you scroll
>>> Updated back-end technology running the application from a modern API structure that pulls in content created in the Drupal website CMS
