Sugar Foods Corporation has introduced Naturel® Agave Sweeteners positioned for the hot and cold beverage markets.
With the addition of Naturel® Agave Sweetener, Sugar Foods continues to capitalize on the natural sweetener market, which is the fastest growing segment in the category. Agave is now a $44 million retail category having grown by seven percent in 2014. Since 2009, Agave has had a compound annual growth rate of +35%.
Naturel® Agave Sweetener is a proprietary blend of over 90 percent light agave and 10 percent natural cane juice. This unique blend mixes easily in both hot and cold beverages, including coffee, hot tea, iced tea and smoothies. This product is both gluten-free and non-GMO.
Sugar Foods created a custom design that moves away from using the agave plant on the package. “The goal of the new design is to make the product approachable and easy to understand,” said Chris Travisano, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “In essence, we want to take the mystery out of agave sweeteners. Indigenous to Mexico, the agave plant has long been sought after for its naturally sweet nectar. This coveted succulent thrives in the rich sandy soils of Mexico, where Sugar Foods harvests Naturel® Agave.
When the agave plant has grown for 7-10 years, its leaves are cut to reveal the core, “la piña,” which contains honey-like nectar. The nectar is then extracted from the piña, filtered, and heated at a very low temperature to turn it into naturally sweet syrup.
Agave is lighter than honey and 125 times sweeter than sugar, so the consumer or foodservice operator can use less and sweeten more. Its light, clean taste makes it the perfect choice for sweetening beverages, meals and desserts.
