Trident University International Makes Impact Through Charitable Initiatives In 2014
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) January 30, 2015 -- Trident University International’s (Trident) employee and community outreach group - Impact - had a busy 2014, helping the University to participate in numerous charitable events and other opportunities to give back to the community.
Capping off the year was their Holiday Toy Drive, which collected $1500 worth of toys and cash, helping between 125-150 kids.
“Our involvement with charities and other initiatives are a way for Trident to give back and support causes that are important to us. Additionally, being an online university limits face-to-face interaction with our local community and students, so getting involved with local, hands-on opportunities is very fulfilling," Liza Bledsoe, Academic Advisor and President of Impact.
With 66% of the University’s population being active duty military or National Guard members, many of the support and charitable giving initiatives are focused on military and veteran populations.
The 33rd Annual Southland Credit Union Los Alamitos Race on the Base – an event with which Trident is perennially involved– took place in February 2014 at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, CA. This key event allows Trident to continue its support of the Armed Forces while promoting a healthy lifestyle. Further, as a 100% online university, Trident values this opportunity to interact with the student community.
This year, the University sponsored the 5K Run, 5K Walk, and the 10K Run. Proceeds from this event benefited the USA Water Polo National Training Center at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) with a portion of the proceeds donated to Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR) for Military at the JFTB. The 5K Walk was co-hosted by the Cancer Support Foundation and a portion of the proceeds, generated from the 5K Walk and through race registration, was donated to the organization.
Impact also played a large role around Veteran’s Day, marking the holiday by acknowledging and thanking its employees who have served in any of the five branches. Additionally, yellow ribbons were available for all employees to wear and a public lunch was held for employees to celebrate with their veteran colleagues. Military veterans make up 29% of Trident’s faculty, management, and staff.
Also, coinciding with the holiday, the University hosted a clothing drive for homeless veterans and other veterans in need, donating these items directly to the Veterans Affairs of Long Beach, CA.
Trident looks forward to continue serving all members of its local and student community in 2015 and beyond.
