Recently, we saw Bollywood female actor Deepika Padukone opening up about her struggle with depression over the last year. She bravely came out and spoke freely about her personal struggles and the lack of awareness and support within society for depression and anxiety which is affecting so many people across the world today. There is an urgent need for society to put the spotlight on mental health awareness so that people no longer suffer silently. There is help available and today it is also conveniently available online.

An online counselling company Healtheminds was featured in an article in The Times of India on the 20th of January, 2015 that covered depression and Deepika Padukone’s initiative. Mental Health, especially Depression all over the globe has been a victim to a lot of stigma. As mentioned by Ankita Puri, Co-Founder of Healtheminds, in the TOI interview, "Sometimes stigma prevents people from going to a hospital. People sitting at home can connect to us and talk to our panellists. If it's bottled up, it becomes more difficult to handle and can lead to suicidal tendencies."

The Healtheminds team believes that having a platform online where individuals have access to experts at any time and any place is very impactful as it makes it convenient for people; and there is a big anonymity factor that plays a major hindrance in reaching out for help otherwise.

As mentioned by Dr. Sunita Maheshwari, co-founder at Healtheminds “We have 38 counsellors and psychiatrists on our panel round the clock, who are experts of their fields and are trained in online therapy.”

It is refreshing to see the passion of Healtheminds in the space of Mental Health and their dedication and vision of trying to reduce the stigma attached to the field in every possible way, so that there is a positive approach towards seeking support and help.
