Garrison Forest School Awarded Imagination Playground Classroom Block Set
(PRWEB) January 31, 2015 -- Imagination Playground, an innovative playground equipment system, selected Garrison Forest School (GFS) as one of 26 schools nationwide to be awarded an Imagination Playground Classroom Block Set. Imagination Playground is an innovative, portable playground designed to inspire creative, open-ended play. The set, which is a made-to-order classroom set of 95 foam blocks, will be used by Garrison Forest’s coed Preschool for ages two through Pre-Kindergarten.
GFS was one of 3,000 schools nominated for the system. Winners were then selected based on their innovative responses to how they planned to use the sets.
In January, Imagination Playground visited GFS, bringing a set of the giant construction blocks--about twice the size of the classroom block set--and a trained facilitator. GFS Pre-K and 2nd Grade classes worked in small groups where they collaborated to come up with their own ideas for structures. They then designed and built their creations during construction sessions. “The fact that the large set allows them to build things they can actually enter and climb on makes them all that much more valuable,” says Head of Preschool Zibby Andrews. “When the classroom set arrives, we’ll have many more opportunities for the Preschoolers to create with materials.”
In addition to working with the classroom sets that the school will receive, Head of Mrs. Andrews hopes to bring the larger block sets to the schools more often to be used by older students and teachers.
