Upper Room Books is pleased to announce that Becoming Who God Wants You to Be: 60 Meditations for Personal Spiritual Direction by W. Paul Jones has won a 2015 Illumination Book Award. Jones’ book won a gold award in the Christian Living category.
In Becoming Who God Wants You to Be, Paul Jones offers 60 meditations that facilitate self-guided personal spiritual direction. Spiritual direction is another term for spiritual companionship or spiritual guidance. According to Spiritual Directors International, some form of spiritual direction or spiritual companionship exists in all the major world religions.
For those who do not have their own spiritual director – or are curious about spiritual direction – Jones’ meditations enable readers to be their own spiritual director under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Becoming Who God Wants You to Be features reflection questions at the end of each chapter, encouraging readers to examine their difficulties and triumphs and find direction in their spiritual lives.
W. Paul Jones is resident director of the Hermitage Spiritual Retreat Center on Lake Pomme de Terre in southern Missouri. He is a theologian and social activist who taught at Yale, Princeton, and St. Paul School of Theology. A former United Methodist clergyman, he is now a Family Brother of Assumption Abbey in Ava, Missouri. Jones is the author of 12 books.
