Frontline Insurance Provides K-12 Scholarships Through the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program and Encourages Students to Get Ready for Hurricane Season
Ormond Beach, Fla. (PRWEB) February 02, 2015 -- Representatives from Frontline Insurance, based in Lake Mary, Fla. visited Calvary Christian Academy in Ormond Beach today for an interactive presentation designed to help students get prepared for the upcoming hurricane season.
During the presentation, students learned about how they can make sure their families are ready to evacuate in the event that the east coast of Florida is threatened by a hurricane, and what items they would need to have in an emergency kit.
Frontline Insurance serves coastal homeowners in the Southeastern United States, many residing in Florida, and offered the event as an extension of the company’s support of the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to nearly 70,000 students in Florida this school year, including about 150 students at Calvary Christian.
At the event, Frontline Insurance Project Manager Dan Johnson presented a check to Step Up For Students, representing the company’s 2014 contribution.
“Frontline Insurance is proud to give back to the community by providing educational options to Florida families who might not otherwise have them, and we wanted to take our involvement with the program a step further by offering this event to students to help them understand the importance of being prepared for hurricane season,” said Johnson.
Step Up For Students administers the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to qualified families throughout Florida. Scholarships are funded by corporations that receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for their contributions. The program allows recipients to choose between a scholarship to help with private school tuition and fees, or a transportation scholarship to attend an out-of-district public school.
Frontline Insurance joined the program as a corporate partner in 2014 and has since pledged $760,000 to fund scholarships for low-income students. The company’s total contributions will fund nearly 140 scholarships.
After the presentation by Frontline employees, the fifth-grade students worked in groups to come up with their own emergency plans and discussed what items should be included in a hurricane preparedness kit.
“The Step Up For Students Scholarship Program is helping to positively shape the future of our state’s children, but we couldn’t do this important work without donors like Frontline Insurance,” said Step Up For Students Chief Financial Officer Ann Mackey. “We are grateful for their support and for the impact that Frontline is making in our community.”
Calvary Christian Academy educates students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, nearly 150 of whom are using a Step Up scholarship to attend the school this year.
