Local Fencing Club’s Student Wins Top Honors in Regional High School Fencing League
Marietta, GA (PRWEB) February 03, 2015 -- Donovan Munlin, a 17-year-old senior from Lassiter High School and athlete at Premier Fencing Alliance, is Ranked # 1 in the Georgia High-School Fencing League.
The league features 18 schools, including Cobb Schools like Lassiter High School and Walton High School. With hundreds of competitive students competing in 8 tournaments over it’s 5-month competitive season, it’s an honor for Munlin to top the league’s ranking in the men’s epee event.
“He’s worked really hard this year,” said Dimitri Kirk-Gordon, Munlin’s epee coach. “He’s put in a lot of time at team practices and tournaments, but also comes on his off days to Premier Fencing Alliance to keep working.”
Kirk-Gordon said he’s very proud of how Munlin progressed through the season, especially with his footwork and conditioning, key parts of this intense full-body sport.
Munlin plans to continue to train at Premier Fencing Alliance until he heads to Europe in the Fall to continue fencing training.
Kirk-Gordon says he looks forward to working with Munlin as he continues to grow as a fencer and is excited to continue working with fencers from the high-school league and from all around Georgia.
“Donovan’s success says a lot about how the sport is growing in our region,” Kirk-Gordon said. “We have more kids excited about the sport, working hard and competing — and that’s just awesome, we’re excited to be a part of it.”
