Greenberg Traurig’s Annapoorni Sankaran Appointed to Texas Minority Counsel Program Steering Committee
(PRWEB) February 03, 2015 -- Annapoorni Sankaran, a shareholder in the Houston office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, has been selected to serve on the 2015 Texas Minority Counsel Program (TMCP) Steering Committee for the fourth consecutive year. As a member of the steering committee, she will help shape goals and plan various aspects of TMCP, an annual client development, networking, and CLE event for diverse attorneys in Texas. The conference will be held in Houston Oct. 14 - 16, 2015.
Sankaran's role includes selecting session topics and speakers, recruiting corporate and law firm participants, and organizing various events leading up to the main conference. In 2014, she designed and launched a new outreach initiative at TMCP called “Networking Through Service,” an opportunity for attorneys to visit local schools, introduce minority students to legal careers, and develop the pipeline of future attorneys.
“TMCP is premier forum that draws talented attorneys and law students from across Texas. I am pleased that its offerings for outside, in-house and government counsel continue to grow each year,” said Sankaran. “I look forward to working with my fellow steering committee members to execute another enriching conference this year.”
According to the State Bar of Texas website, TMCP was created in 1993 with the mission of increasing opportunities for minority and women attorneys who provide legal services to corporate and government clients, and to expose those organizations to the talent found in the minority and woman lawyer community.
Sankaran focuses her practice on commercial litigation and bankruptcy litigation. She handles trial and appellate matters before federal and state courts around the United States. Sankaran has wide-ranging experience with complex litigation and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. She represents institutional and individual clients and achieves innovative, business-focused solutions for clients.
In addition to her contributions to TMCP, Sankaran is actively involved in local and national legal associations. She previously served as president of the South Asian Bar Association (SABA), one of six national affinity bar organizations in the United States, and is currently a national advisory council member. She helped launch and revitalize several local SABA chapters of the national organization, including the Austin, Dallas, Greater Boston, and Houston chapters. In recognition of her work, she received the SABA 2013 Cornerstone Award, and the SABA Greater Boston Annapoorni R. Sankaran Award for Excellence in Leadership and Service was created in her honor. Sankaran was named as one of the top “40 under 40” by the Houston Business Journal and the Boston Business Journal. She holds a J.D. degree and a B.A, cum laude, from Boston University.
