Reed Tech Awarded Patent Data Capture Bridge Contract with a Potential Value of More Than $500M
Horsham, PA (PRWEB) February 05, 2015 -- Reed Technology and Information Services Inc. (Reed Tech), a LexisNexis company, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded the company a patent data capture contract. This bridge contract continues work performed under the previous contract DOC50PAPT0410001. Reed Tech will continue to capture, manage and prepare for publication every non-secret patent application submitted to the USPTO under this contract, which has a ceiling amount of $518,821,642. This contract is scheduled to begin February 1, 2015, running for one year (through January 31, 2016) with two, one-year extensions at the option of the USPTO.
Reed Tech has provided services that support the publication of U.S. patent grants since 1970 and the publication of U.S. patent applications since 2001. A long-time supplier to the USPTO for 45 years, Reed Tech has tailored its powerful and flexible work flow management system to meet the USPTO’s business rules to convert large volumes of complex scientific and technical information—such as chemical structures and mathematical equations, DNA sequences, tabular information and graphics—into searchable XML and image databases. The XML- and image-based patent information that Reed Tech delivers under the patent data capture contract is used by USPTO examiners and staff internally, and disseminated worldwide by the USPTO.
“We are extremely pleased to continue to support the strategic objectives of the USPTO in its mission to utilize technology to strengthen capacity and improve patent quality,” said Sam Hardman, president of Reed Tech. “The advancements brought about by the intellectual property system have a profound effect on the entire U.S. economy and way of life, and Reed Tech is very proud to contribute to this legacy of innovation.”
The new contract follows the previous contract’s scope of work, which includes scanning and indexing all new patent applications and follow-on correspondence received by the USPTO in addition to other patent data capture processes. Under the contract, Reed Tech will prepare more than 14,000 patent applications per week for publication.
