FST Logistics Achieves Perfect Inventory in Year-end Count for Consumer Products Customer as Part of 99.9999% Accuracy Guarantee
(PRWEB) February 10, 2015 -- FST Logistics is a clean machine. The Central Ohio third party logistics company operates at the edge of operational and environmental efficiency.
The year-end 2014 inventory count for a major client, a leading manufacturer of organic energy and nutrition food and drinks, came in 100% accurate. Along with an independent audit company nearly 2200 randomly selected warehouse locations were counted. There was not one discrepancy on any SKU#, quantity, date code, location, license plate, manufacturer's license plate or tail code.
"I have been doing this for 33 years and my team has outdone themselves on this one," said Chris Smith, FST's Operations Manager.
Remarkably, the accuracy of the count is not exactly an exception. They promise a 99.9999% service level for every warehouse client and go so far as to write the guarantee into service contracts. So far, according to Smith, they have not had to pay out one dollar.
FST uses Cadence Warehouse Management System from Cadre Technologies to manage its 750,000 feet of multi-temperature controlled warehouse space. The system helps control receiving, put-away, inventory control, picking and shipment preparation. They rely heavily on cycle-counting functions of the systems to provide inventory accuracy by initiating system counts and resolving exceptions.
"We routinely scan locations to count the expected quantities," explained Smith. "When a discrepancy is discovered, we have QA supervisors resolve the issue. Since we pay such close attention, inventory exceptions are slim to none."
The warehouse division of the company specializes in food-grade perishables, grocery products, boxed bottled items, confectioneries, pharmaceuticals, health and beauty aids in temperature controlled and non temperature sensitive bulk and packaged goods.
"FST is getting the true value from Cadence WMS," said Daryl Grove, Executive VP at Cadre. "A system is only as good as its users and FST users operate the system at peak performance."
The food-grade refrigerated warehouse is tightly monitored for optimal temperature for cold, frozen and dry inventory. Temperature control is extended to the FST transportation division with refrigerated and frozen LTL, truckload and food-compatible hazardous freight services.
Beyond efforts to ensure clean inventory, FST has aggressive environmental and energy initiatives for both its warehouse division and trucking operations. The long list of energy saving upgrades in the warehouses include: motion sensors for lighting, quick charging system for all forklifts, re-insulating to reduce heating and cooling costs, upgraded electrical transformers and converting its large fleet of trucks and more than 100 tractors to compressed natural gas (CNG). The transportation facility in Columbus even installed a CNG filling station on its property for its own use and for the public use.
FST participates in the Environmental Protection Agencie's Smart Way Transport Partnership which helps improve fuel efficiency and environmental performance.
FST Logistics, Inc. started its operations as Franklin Specialty Transport in Columbus, Ohio in 1991 with only 11 employees. The company quickly found its niche as an asset-based specialty carrier, providing multi-temperature-controlled LTL transportation services. FST has more than 250 employees and has expanded its LTL pick-up and delivery services with customers based in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. FST also provides frozen truckload, LTL and multi-temperature warehousing services within the state of Ohio. To learn more, visit http://www.fstlogistics.com.
