Tampa, FL (PRWEB) February 06, 2015
Michelle Westfall, MS, MT-BC, the first music therapist ever hired by Sunbelt Staffing, is scheduled to deliver a speaker session at the 2015 Online Conference for Music Therapy (OCMT). Westfall will be discussing music therapy for individuals with dementia to a global audience of music therapy professionals.
In her presentation, Westfall will address the use of music therapy for reducing anxiety and stress for individuals with dementia. Attendees should expect to learn about the terminology, existing research, and the polyvagal theory in relation to music therapy treatment modalities in dementia populations.
Westfall has been practicing music therapy for five years with children and adolescents who have developmental, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. She earned her undergraduate degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. and her master’s degree at Radford University in Radford, Va. While pursuing her advanced degree, Westfall participated in volunteer work at a community program where she worked with older adults with dementia. This experience inspired her theoretical paper and graduate clinical project. In September of 2014, she joined Sunbelt Staffing as the first musical therapist in its school therapy division.
“We have heard nothing but outstanding things about Michelle’s abilities and the work she does every day at the schools,” says Allison Quinlivan, Westfall’s hiring manager at Sunbelt. The school district describes Westfall as a great team player with a warm and positive attitude.
The 2015 Online Conference for Music Therapy will take place worldwide on Feb. 7, 2014. This 24-hour online conference brings together music therapists from all over the globe and fosters discussion about the professional field of Music Therapy.
