February is American Heart Month and Florida Hospital is teaming up with the Tampa Bay Lightning to raise awareness about heart health on Saturday, February 7th. The puck drops at 5:00pm at the Amalie Arena as the Bolts “face-off” against the defending Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. According to the CDC, heart disease claims more lives every year than all cancers combined and annually one in every four deaths is related to heart disease. Florida Hospital is at the forefront of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, utilizing groundbreaking research and leading edge medicine.

Lightning Head Coach Jon Cooper, along with the Lightning staff will wear red ties in support of Heart Health Awareness night. Additionally, Sun Sports on-air talent Rick Peckham and Chris Dingman will also wear red ties while they interview Cardiologist Dr. James Smith, during the game’s telecast. The Florida Hospital team will also educate fans about simple ways to improve cardiovascular health as well as give “I heart Bolts” t-shirts away to the first 10,000 fans. Florida Hospital will feature public service announcements and also reveal the number of hearts Florida Hospital saved in the last 12 months by creating an all-arena heart tribute during the first period intermission. Plus, on heart health awareness night, four lucky fans will have a chance to win a team signed red Bolts jersey.

During six Tampa Bay Lightning home games, this season Florida Hospital will feature a heartwarming series titled “Celebrate Life.” This series highlights special members of the community who have been positively impacted by the care received at Florida Hospital. During the February 7th game a patient whose life was saved by the Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute will be honored.
