Cannabis Advisors Institute is pleased to announce that we have obtained dispensary licensing for three clients: EarthMed LLC, Union Group of Illinois LLC, and Healthway Services of West Illinois LLC. This is veryexciting, and a pleasant surprise since, as recently as the end of January, Governor Rauner had said no licenses would be issued until a legal review of the licensing process had been completed.

On Monday, 2 February, the Governor’s office licensed 18 cultivation centers to begin growing medical marijuana. At the same time, 53 companies were licensed to operate marijuana dispensaries. Other applications are still under review for both cultivation and dispensary licenses.

This is terrific news for qualifying patients in need of medical marijuana. It will be several months before medicinal cannabis is available for distribution, but the long wait is finally coming to an end. If you have not registered with the Department of Public Health to be designated a qualifying patient, do so now. Check the ‘For Patients’ page on this website for information about the pilot program, and if you have questions or need assistance, feel free to contact us.

What is important for qualifying patients to know is that the dispensaries are to be as evenly distributed throughout the state as possible, to ensure availability to everyone in Illinois. Not every district in the state has applied, although this can change as the pilot program continues. Most districts have at least one license, and a few have as many as three.

We feel growing excitement as the Medical Marijuana pilot program moves forward. Securing the licenses for our clients required a lot of time, effort, and patience. CAI looks forward to updating you on developments as we continue to advocate and educate individuals, companies and policy makers in Illinois.
