Buck's County Woman Opens Pennsylvania's First Free-Standing Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center Offering both Multiplace and Monoplace Hyperbaric Chambers
Langhorne, PA (PRWEB) February 10, 2015 -- Victoria Bliss-Calkins, a ten-year resident of Bucks County has opened Oxygen Oasis Hyperbaric Wellness Center, Pennsylvania’s first free-standing Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center to offer both state-of-the-art multiplace and monoplace hyperbaric chambers. Located in Langhorne, the center offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), a well-established medical treatment for a wide range of traumatic, acute and chronic diseases and conditions.
Oxygen Oasis owner Victoria Bliss-Calkins was introduced to HBOT on a personal level when searching for treatment options for the radiation injury that occurred after her husband Tom underwent treatment for stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil. After completing hyperbaric therapy for delayed radiation injury, Tom regained flexibility in his neck and reduced the frequency of the muscle spasms he endured after his surgery. They felt a calling to help others to find the same ray of hope they found in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. His successful treatment inspired her to receive certification in Hyperbaric Medicine and in September 2014 she opened her own facility, Oxygen Oasis Hyperbaric Wellness Center, making these services available in Bucks County.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a non-invasive medical treatment administered by delivering 100% oxygen at pressures greater than two to three times the normal atmospheric pressure to a patient in a chamber. HBOT promotes healing by increasing the oxygen concentration in the body to 15-20 times greater than normal at the cellular level. HBOT is FDA approved and has been proven effective as an adjunctive therapy for specific indications, such as chronic wounds caused by diseases and conditions as diabetes, obesity, aging and the late effects of radiation therapy. The National Institute of Health reported in 2010 that more than 6.5 million people in the U.S. suffer from these kind of wounds.
“I have personally seen the power of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in alleviating the pain and discomfort my husband, like so many cancer patients, suffered as a result of radiation injury and I am dedicated to making HBOT more accessible to those who may benefit from it”, stated Victoria Bliss-Calkins, Founder and CEO.
