Getting Cli-Fi included in the BISAC subject headings will give rise to a new wave of Cli-Fi books and will ensure that existing literary works that fall into this category are also added.

eReflect features a new guest post by Cli-Fi pioneer and ardent advocate, Dan Bloom. In this post on the official Ultimate Spelling™ website blog, Bloom shares his ideas and insights about the genre, and discusses new developments in the world of climate-focused literature.

As the developer and promoter of a spelling program, eReflect is always interested in sharing news about new English words and concepts with its readers. "Cli-fi" is one of those new words, and the genre of "climate fiction" is one that Bloom is particularly focused on. In this post, Bloom shares a new development on the Cli-Fi front which, if realized, would substantially help solidify and standardize Cli-Fi as a science fiction sub-genre. As Bloom explains in his guest post, his hard work lobbying for the creation of a CLi-Fi category in the publishing industry is close to being realized. Bloom’s goal is to make sure that Cli-Fi is included in the Book Industry Standards and Communications (BISAC) listing as a valid literary genre.

As he explains in his post on the spelling tutor software website, his nonstop efforts have contributed to an ongoing discourse around Cli-Fi. Coordinating his efforts with CLi-Fi authors, directors, scriptwriters, and other enthusiastic lobbyists is a process that’s time-consuming, but Bloom is determined that no matter how many years this lobbying might take, the result will be worth it. In the end, he hopes that the Cli-Fi genre will appear next to other relatively new genres like Cyberpunk, Post Apocalyptic, and Alien Contact. Dan Bloom concludes his guest post on the learn to spell software site by saying, “I am sure it will just be a matter of time before Cli-Fi is listed either as a subgenre of science fiction, or as an entirely separate genre of its own. A committee will decide, and it’s all in their hands.”

Getting Cli-Fi included in the BISAC subject headings will give rise to a new wave of Cli-Fi books and will ensure that existing literary works that fall into this category are also added. Dan Bloom will continue lobbying for the recognition of Cli-Fi as a legitimate and up-and-coming literary genre in his wider efforts to raise awareness of the planet's environmental crisis.
