ITEN’s 2014 Startup Report Reveals Top St. Louis Tech Startups

This evening, ITEN, the 501(c)3 organization that provides a precedent-setting structure for entrepreneurs to contribute to the growth and success of the St. Louis startup ecosystem, released the 2014 list of the top ten tech startups in St. Louis. In the same report, ITEN identifies the ten fastest growing tech companies under two years old, and an “honorable mention” list of companies that deserve a closer look.

Francis Chmelir, Director of Operations at ITEN, is excited about how this diverse group of companies paints an accurate picture of the St. Louis tech community at large. “This year’s list of companies in the Top Ten, Fast Ten and Honorable Mention categories, represents the collective work of St. Louis’ incredible tech entrepreneurs. We believe that the quality of these companies is as strong as any tech community in the country.”

The Top Ten tech companies are:

Norse's globally distributed distant early warning grid of millions of dark sensors, honeypots, crawlers, and agents deliver unique visibility into the Internet - especially the darknets, where bad actors operate. Norse has experienced phenomenal growth in revenue, funding and employees.

2. Splice Machine http://www.splicemachine.com/
Splice Machine is designed to scale real-time applications using commodity hardware without application rewrites, providing companies with a high-performance, massively scalable database for applications. Splice Machine raised $18M in 2014.

3. MulticoreWare Inc. http://www.multicorewareinc.com/
MulticoreWare is the leading provider of programmer productivity tools, libraries and application development services for homogenous and heterogeneous multicore CPU and GPU architectures. MulticoreWare, a company that is totally self-funded, is featured in the 2014 Inc. 500 list, ranked 110th.

4. LockerDome http://www.lockerdome.com/
Through lockerdome.com and LockerDome-powered widgets, more than 75 million people per month use the online platform to discover, collect, and engage around things they like. LockerDome has users in more than 100 countries, and is the top B2C tech startup in the region.

5. FoodEssentials http://www.foodessentials.com/
FoodEssentials’ LabelINSIGHT is the food industry’s most powerful and innovative product insight exchange, providing manufacturers and retailers a live view into the grocery marketplace.

6. Hatchbuck http://www.hatchbuck.com/
Hatchbuck is simple sales and marketing software for small business that automates sales and marketing efforts overnight. Hatchbuck grew their base of customers and increased revenue by 300% in 2014.

7. Aisle411 http://www.aisle411.com/
Aisle411 is the leading local and indoor location platform powering over 13,000 retail stores with indoor mapping, search, location and analytics solutions that help retailers and brands drive store visits, in-store shopper engagement, and merchandising insights. 2.3 million products are found in the Aisle411's product search engine.

8. TruQC http://www.truqcapp.com/
TruQC is a quality control and process documentation app built for the iPad. Originally designed for industrial painters, TruQC is now bringing QC and reporting tasks into the digital age for customers in an array of industries. St. Louis hockey legend Barret Jackman is an investor in TruQC.

9. Click With Me Now http://www.clickwithmenow.com/
Click With Me Now is changing the way people connect online with a Collaborative Customer Interface Platform. The company raised $2.45 million in 2014.

10. Observable Networks http://www.observable.net/
Observable Networks delivers critical threat defense services based on dynamic endpoint modeling to understand the behavior of all network devices and identify early stage and hidden indicators of compromise. Observable Networks grew over 50% in employee count in 2014.

Pushup Social is a technology that allows a brand or organization to create their own online community on their existing website in a matter of minutes.

3. Pixel Press
Pixel Press is a technology company focused on building creative and fun mobile gaming experiences for audiences of all ages that leverage both the analytical & creative sides of the brain.

4. PFITR
PFITR is a cloud-based software that helps public treasurers across the country by improving transparency, reducing risk, and improving cash flow.

5. Marketvolt
MarketVolt provides email marketing software and services to enterprise customers, and spun out of Foundry Software Development Company in 2013.

6. Xooker
Xooker is the next generation ad delivery platform: mobile, location aware, personalized, and fun.    

7. HealthyApp HealthyLife Studio
HealthyApp is designed to break the smartphone habit cycle, preventing overuse of target apps while creating new rewards that reinforce the user’s self-control.

8. Prattle Analytics
Prattle Analytics’ central bank sentiment data is currently used by some of the largest hedge funds in the world.

9. MeterGenius
MeterGenius gives homeowners the ability to track electricity consumption, create reminders to help them change their behavior, set goals and track their progress, compare themselves to similar neighbors, and earn points that can be redeemed for smart and energy efficient appliances.

10. iChurch Phone Apps
iChurch is a mobile app that helps churches realize a reduction in costs and better forecasting/utilization of volunteer staff through the utilization of custom reports and analysis via a mobile app.

And the outlook for 2015 is even better. Chmelir expects to see the tech startup community to continue to strengthen. “The accomplishments of these entrepreneurial teams show that you can build a strong tech startup here in St. Louis. Entrepreneur in Residence takes a unique approach to venture acceleration. Each EIR selects the ventures that he or she will be working with, and then orchestrates all appropriate resources to maximize the fast growth of the company.
