Hyperoptic Hits Six Figure Milestone

Hyperoptic continues to give consumers access to the fastest broadband speeds in the UK, reaching an important milestone by passing over 100,000 units across 1,000 sites.

Hyperoptic enabled homes are growing every day – making them more marketable because it’s indisputable that they can support the broadband usage requirements of today and tomorrow.

The broadband market in the UK is finally getting up to speed, with true fibre connectivity becoming more widely available to consumers thanks to Hyperoptic, the UK’s leading Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) provider. It has today reached a key milestone - passing over 100,000 units, across over 1,000 sites, giving consumers access to the fastest broadband speeds in the UK.

According to the last report by the FTTH Council Europe, less than 1% of the UK has access to Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband, which means the UK doesn’t even feature on global rankings. While Ofcom reports that 75% of the UK has access to Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) broadband, FTTC is an ‘up to’ technology. Maximum advertised speed a consumer can receive with FTTC is 76Mbps – but in reality average speeds are only 80% of advertised speeds. With FTTH, consumers get what they expect and need.

Dana Tobak, Managing Director, Hyperoptic, comments: “FTTH is the gold standard for broadband and we are committed to lead the charge to increase understanding and availability across the UK. Consumers deserve access to true fibre connectivity, which is now commonplace in other nations.

“Broadband has become a utility that we can't live without – Brits are now doubling their broadband data usage year-on-year. Buyers and renters beware; check the speeds and offerings at homes before buying or moving in. Speed matters. Hyperoptic enabled homes are growing every day – making them more marketable because it’s indisputable that they can support the broadband usage requirements of today and tomorrow.”

Hyperoptic focuses on bringing its services to developments of flats with 50 or more units, where at least ten per cent of residents have registered interest. Services are live across Greater London, Cardiff, Bristol, Reading, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. Installations are underway in Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle and Nottingham.

Hyperoptic installs its services across the whole gambit of property, from social housing to legendary developments like The Montevetro and The Tower, One St George Wharf, on the Thames – retrofitting fibre into existing buildings or installing fibre into new-builds. Other iconic homes that can boast hyper-fast connectivity from Hyperoptic include East Village, the former Athletes’ Village, the Beetham Tower in Manchester, Hayes Apartments in Cardiff and the Robinson Building in Bristol.

Hartwig Tauber, Director General, FTTH Council Europe adds: “FTTH offers reliable high speed broadband access with best quality of service to end users. This allows them to benefit from new and innovative services in home entertainment, health, education and security; and, overall, to experience a connected world. Our studies show that fibre users are significantly more satisfied with their broadband connections than, for example, DSL customers. And they are more interested in using new online services. We are therefore convinced that a connected world needs fibre-connected users.”
