“Background searches are important both for hiring and for due diligence,” said Corra Group Co-Founder, Gordon Basichis. " Due diligence is just that. Do your research up front. If not, the aftermath can prove a painful experience.”

Corra Group has added several background checks to its service for business research and executive level employment screening. These searches are in response to increased demand and designed for both due diligence and recruiting purposes to assist clients with determining of the subject or candidate has any potential conflicts of interest.
“We are now offering two types of Social Media Reports," said Corra Group Co-Founder, Gordon Basichis. "One report is for employment screening purposes, and the other is for due diligence and corporate research. These Social Media Reports are are proving increasingly popular with private equity, venture capital, and other financial groups. The social media reports are cost effective and in short course our clients can determine any negative information on their candidates that populates the Internet.
Basichis pointed out that in addition to the Social Media Reports and the typical criminal records and civil records checks, Corra Group now offers a Corporate Records Search. The Corporate Records search will reveal a principle’s history of business affiliations.
“The Corporate Records search helps examine where a candidate has held office previously,” said Basichis. "We recently started offering this background report and our finance clients, especially, are particularly enthusiastic. "This search helps determine whether he was a member of the board, director, owner, partner, or any actual principle. The search is especially helpful in determine any current associations that may prove a conflict of interest. From employers and private equity investors alike the last thing they need is to employee someone only to discover he is part a company with similar interests as their own. Worst case scenario, he can siphon off clients of funding without anyone knowing it, until it’s too late.”
Basichis advises that often when conducting employment screening for upper level executives or those in the financial industries, the Federal Civil Records search is often overlooked. Basichis pointed out it is critical to search Federal Civil Records as well as Federal Criminal Records.
“Most clients are aware of conducting background checks for Federal Criminal Records,” said Basichis. “But this is a volatile global economy. We tell our clients Federal Criminal Records are only half the equation. We encourage them to add Federal Civil Records. Why? Often cases involving financial malfeasance are very complex and there is some concern with the prosecution whether the jurors would understand the full ramifications of the crimes committed. Add to that it takes twelve jurors to convict in Federal Criminal Court. So often the U.S. Attorney will move the case to Federal Civil Court where the threshold to convict is significantly less. Such a maneuver may also cause the defendant to settle on a civil case, where it may be more difficult in criminal cases where he would potentially be spending time in jail.
“Background searches are important both for hiring and for due diligence,” said Basichis. “ Additionally, we just engaged with several research groups to conduct Business Credit Reports. We can now retrieve Business Credit Reports for millions of companies in just about every part of the world. These are essential for any due diligence. We advise our clients, due diligence is just that. Do your research up front. If not, the aftermath can prove a painful experience.”
