The Republic of Tea First Flush Darjeeling Tea Contest

The Republic of Tea, leading purveyor of premium teas, is launching its second annual contest to feature original artwork on its Limited Edition First Flush Darjeeling Tea tin in celebration of its first plucking of the season. All customers (Citizens) and artists nationwide are invited to participate and submit their original designs now through March 2, 2015.

The Republic of Tea procures the finest first tea leaves of spring or “First Flush” from the renowned Darjeeling region of India. The leaves are carefully selected from one of the famed tea gardens found at the base of the mighty Himalayan Mountains near the Nepalese border. The Minister of Leaves samples a variety of first spring leaves from many different gardens of the region, carefully selecting what represents the perfect “First Flush” spring leaves of the year’s harvest. Very limited quantities are then expedited via air freight so that Citizens across the globe can enjoy the extremely fresh, special reserve full leaf loose tea for a limited time. The tea is celebrated each year as a Limited Edition blend, of which only 1,000 tins are produced, and features the custom artwork.

“This year’s Limited Edition First Flush Darjeeling Tea, the 13th in the series, celebrates the first harvest of the 2015 season, as well as the hard work put forth by one of our talented Citizens,” says Kristina Richens, Minister of Commerce for The Republic of Tea. “We’re honored to share this unique opportunity with all of our Citizens as we work to procure this highly-regarded reserve single origin tea. We look forward to seeing the beautiful entries inspired by such a special, highly revered tea.”

One winner and two runners up will be announced on March 9, 2015:

  • Winner: Custom artwork featured on the 2015 First Flush Darjeeling Tin crediting the artist, 3 tins of the First Flush Darjeeling Tea and an exclusive gift basket from The Republic of Tea
  • 1st Runner Up: Free tin of 2015 First Flush Darjeeling Tea and a teapot
  • 2nd Runner Up: Free tin of 2015 First Flush Darjeeling Tea and a travel press

When evaluating artwork for the packaging, the company is looking for art that can represent any of the following: a tea leaf, the culture of tea, the region of Darjeeling, the arrival of new spring leaves and spring’s vibrant colors. Entries for the contest are to be submitted through email to darjeeling(at)republicoftea(dot)com or via the brand’s Facebook page contest app by March 2, 2015. Participants must reside in the U.S. and be 18 years or older at time of submission. Winners will be notified and announced on March 9, 2015.
