Qosmos®, the market leader in embedded Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and network intelligence technology for use in physical, virtualized and in Software Defined Networking (SDN) architectures, today announced the Qosmos Classifier, the market’s first standards-based, dedicated service classifier. It is based on award-winning Qosmos technology which identifies and extracts traffic information in real time, identifying protocols, types of application, and extracting additional information in the form of metadata. The Qosmos Classifier is especially well-suited to enable intelligent, dynamic service chaining for mobile Gi-LAN environments.

Fast and easy service creation
Unlike multi-function, legacy traffic steering solutions (e.g. PCEF, TDF, switches, etc.) which allow only limited service chain combinations, the Qosmos Classifier is a dedicated software function with open SDN & NFV interfaces, which makes it easy to programmatically create any type of service combination.

Lower costs
Telecom service providers benefit from lower costs by running the Qosmos Classifier on Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) servers and leveraging open source software frameworks such as OpenStack. In addition, both network resources and CPU utilization can be optimized thanks to the classifier’s packet tagging mechanism, which makes it possible to steer application flows only to relevant service nodes.

The Qosmos Classifier will be presented at the Qosmos booth at Mobile World Congress, Hall 5, stand 5G31. It is available for pilot projects from Q1 2015 and will be commercially available from H2 2015.
