Zofran Lawsuit Information Page Launched In Response To Clients Request For Information On Potential For Zofran Birth Defects, The Olive Law Group
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 31, 2015 -- The Oliver Law Group P.C. has launched a Zofran information page in response to client requests after Zofran lawsuits were filed in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania that purport that Zofran manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) failed to warn physicians and their patients about the risk of birth defects associated with the medication and “illegally and fraudently” promoted Zofran as a treatment to morning sickness to pregnant women without receiving approval for that use from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. (1:15-cv-10429, U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts; 2:15-cv-00709, Eastern District of Pennsylvania)
“The firm believes that investigating these Zofran birth defect allegations is very important for all expectant mothers who depend on the big drug companies to assure them that that their prescription medications are safe for them and their unborn babies” - The Oliver Law Group
According to court documents, Zofran (ondansetron) has been on the market since 1991, and was originally approved to prevent nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy patients. The medication has not been approved to treat severe morning sickness, and it has never been shown to be safe for pregnant women.
Court documents also point out that Zofran is not approved for use in pregnant women, the medication has been widely used to treat a severe form of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum. In 2012, GlaxoSmithKline reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to resolve charges that it had illegally marketed a number of medications, including Zofran. Among other things, the company was accused of promoting Zofran for the treatment of morning sickness in pregnant women, and paying kickbacks to physicians to induce them to prescribe it and other drugs.
