The inaugural Shreveport Derby Day will be held on the lawn of R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport, Louisiana, 2-6 p.m., Saturday, May 2. An afternoon-long party celebrating the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby, Shreveport Derby Day will feature live music by New Orleans-based funk-rock group Flow Tribe, lawn games, food by Rhino Coffee, an open bar serving traditional Kentucky Derby cocktails by Wine Country Bistro and Bottle Shop, a raffle drawing for great prizes, “best-dressed” contests and more. The price of admission includes everything except raffle tickets. Shreveport Derby Day tickets must be purchased in advance and guests must be 21 years of age or older.

Derby Day parties take place across the United States, providing racing fans as well as the general public with an opportunity to experience the revelry and traditions associated with one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. The first-ever Shreveport Derby Day party will make history by being the first event of its kind held on the front lawn of R.W. Norton Art Gallery.

“We’re really excited to have Shreveport Derby Day here on the grounds,” said Emily Feazel, creative and visual arts instructor for R.W. Norton Art Gallery. “An event like Shreveport Derby Day, being held on the front lawn - that’s never happened before.”

Guests at Shreveport Derby Day can take part in Kentucky Derby traditions such as drinking mint juleps and competing in “best dressed” and “best hat” contests. Winners of the fashion contests will be selected by well-known Shreveport clothiers John Pickens and Knox Goodman as well as local hat and clothing designer Jane Ryder. A live simulcast of the Kentucky Derby broadcast will be presented at 5:23 p.m.
