This new component offers barcoding integration for capturing charge details for procedures and supplies via any device.
It started with an idea. Community Hospital Corporation’s SVP of Information Technology, Brian Doerr, wanted to bring charge management to another level for their newest long-term acute care hospital so he turned to HCS. Collaboration led to development and testing, and within three months, the new tools and process were in the hands of LTACH users.
“In addition to greater efficiency for clinical staff, this innovation will allow us to capture and manage charges that would have otherwise been lost,” said Doerr, who oversees all IT for Plano, Texas-based CHC and the community hospitals it serves. “The rapid response from HCS to our request for new functionality helps our organization better serve our hospitals. They were able to enhance, deliver, train, and go-live in a matter of a few short weeks, rather than requiring us to wait several months for a future scheduled release. The charge management component enhances the charge capture process, allowing clinical users to automatically charge for supplies and procedures using barcode scanners that automatically decrement inventory directly from the EMR to get a handle on supplies real-time. Since charges are scanned at the point-of-care, it also speeds up the charging process and billing accuracy.
