Institute of Industrial Engineers Elects New Officers

Don Greene, CEO of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), has announced the election of IIE's new officers. Michael Foss of Cameron International will be president-elect of IIE's board of trustees.

Don Greene, chief executive officer of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), has announced the election of the association’s new officers.

Four positions were filled on IIE’s 13-person board of trustees: president-elect; senior vice president, continuing education; senior vice president, academics; and senior vice president, regional operations.

Michael Foss will be president-elect. Foss is global director of logistics, export and import optimization for Cameron International. He has previously served as senior vice president of regional operations for IIE and has been a member of IIE since 1988. Foss holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from Texas Tech University and a lean/Six Sigma black belt certificate from Villanova University.

Scott Mason was elected senior vice president of continuing education. Mason is the Fluor Endowed Chair in Supply Chain Optimization and Logistics and a professor of industrial engineering at Clemson University. Mason holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering, an M.S.E. in operations research from The University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Arizona State University.

The new senior vice president, academics, is Randa Shehab. Shehab is the Nettie Vincent Boggs Professor of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. She holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, all in industrial engineering, from the University of Oklahoma.

Christopher Geiger will be senior vice president, regional operations. Geiger is senior manager of business development and quality engineering at Universal Orlando Resort. He has previously served as IIE region vice president, Southeast, and assistant vice president for student development, Southeast. He is a two-time recipient of the IIE Outstanding Faculty Advisor of the Year Award for the Southeast Region (2009, 2011) as well as the IIE Global Outstanding Faculty Advisor of the Year Award (2011). He holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in industrial engineering, both from Purdue University.

Two vice presidents of technical operations and two regional vice presidents for IIE’s regional operations board were also elected.

Lukasz Mazur will join the technical operations board as a vice president. He is an assistant professor in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina and holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in industrial and management engineering from Montana State University–Bozeman.

Gillian Nicholls, assistant professor in the Department of Accounting at Southeast Missouri State University, will also join the technical operations board as a vice president. Nicholls holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from Lehigh University, an MBA from Penn State University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Tarun Mohan Lal will serve as regional vice president of the North Central region. A health systems engineering analyst at Mayo Clinic, Lal has previously served as conference chair for the Healthcare Systems Process Improvement Conference and was named a DiscoverE 2014 New Face of Engineering. He holds a B.E. in industrial engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, an M.S. in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research from the State University of New York at Binghamton.

Brandon Laird will serve as regional vice president of the South Central region. Laird is a manufacturing engineer at Martin Sprocket & Gear Inc. He holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.

The newly elected officers were elected by professional members of IIE and will serve for three years. They will begin their terms April 1.

The Institute of Industrial Engineers is the world’s largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity.
