On October 21, 2014 Deufol Sunman underwent an external audit for the next 2.5 days conducted by SEDEX, a not for profit membership organization, using their manufacturing ethical trading audit (SMETA) methodology and the 4-Pillar system.
The Ethical Trade Initiative is the leading alliance of companies, trade unions and NGOs that promotes respect for workers’ rights around the globe. The code, outlined below, touches the lives of over 10 million workers each year.
1. Employment is freely chosen
2. Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected
3. Working conditions are safe and hygienic
4. Child labor shall not be used
5. Living wages are paid
6. Working hours are not excessive
7. No discrimination is practiced
8. Regular employment is provided
9. No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed
As a platform for ethical supply chain management, SEDEX has over 10 years of experience in helping companies reduce risk, protecting their reputations and improving practices. Their two main aims are to: 1) ease the burden of suppliers facing multiple audits, questionnaires and certifications and 2) drive improvements in the ethical performance of global supply chains. Mr. Raymond Goodrum was leading the audit at Deufol in Sunman.
During this audit there is an initial meeting and facility tour with plant management and then interviews are conducted with management and various other individuals responsible for a variety of functions. There is a documentary review of health and safety records as well as personnel files. Then there are additional interviews with employees as selected by the auditor before finally wrapping up the audit and providing a complete report.
Deufol received certification of 100% compliance on November 18, 2014 for Health & Safety, Labour Standards, Business Integrity and the Environment.
