Online resource is first comprehensive hub to attempt covering the breadth and depth of entrepreneurship research

As recognition of entrepreneurship as a key economic driver grows, so does interest in understanding the field from a research perspective. For journalists, researchers, policy experts and others interested in entrepreneurship, however, finding the most current research on the topic is no easy task.

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation today launched StateoftheField.org to provide easy access to potentially massive amounts of information related to all aspects of entrepreneurship research. This custom-built tool provides an up-to-date single resource for anyone seeking the most current data on entrepreneurship topics.

“We created State of the Field to enable people to explore the latest in entrepreneurship research in a way that is credible, comprehensive, current and cost-free,” said Jordan Bell-Masterson, an analyst in Research & Policy at the Foundation. “From policymakers to journalists to students, we want everyone to be able to work from the same set of facts.”

The Foundation has selected leading researchers who are experts in their respective fields to write and vet the initial content for State of the Field. Presently, 50 editors are covering 21 subtopics of entrepreneurship research, and more topics will be added over time.

General categories currently include:

  •     Background of Entrepreneurs
  •     Finance
  •     Firm & Industry Dynamics
  •     Geography
  •     Management, Organization, and Strategy
  •     Technology & Innovation

“These topics are just the start; the State of the Field will always be a work in progress,” said Bell-Masterson. “Because research is constantly being updated and expanded, we will continually look for ways to learn about and revise the current state of entrepreneurship research.”

StateoftheField.org is part of the Kauffman Foundation’s ongoing effort to create useful knowledge for entrepreneurs, policymakers and others.
