“Subscribers to Genscape’s Power RT will be able to know when the unit is undergoing full-performance testing and will be provided with valuable information on additional power supply in Germany,” Kathryn Briskie, Genscape Product Specialist, said.

Mannheim Unit 9, covered and tracked by Genscape’s New Built & Decommissioning Report, was released to the Genscape Power Real-Time (RT) platform on Friday, February 20. The addition of the unit to this service will provide Genscape customers with timely insight as the generator, while still in testing period, delivers power supply to the grid.

The official commissioning date of the unit is May 2015, however, at an on-site visit Genscape confirmed that the unit is feeding into the power grid. According to the plant’s operator GKM, Mannheim Unit 9 has been going through initial, relatively short duration test-runs since November 2014. Starting in January 2015, the first full-performance runs were executed and GKM reports to be on time with a commercial test in April 2015. In addition, the district-heating pumps have also been tested with steam delivered to the district-heating grid.

“Subscribers to Genscape’s Power RT will be able to know when the unit is undergoing full-performance testing and will be provided with valuable information on additional power supply in Germany,” Kathryn Briskie, Genscape Product Specialist, said.

Mannheim Unit 9 is part of a larger power generation site comprised of five other units that are currently operating. These units are all coal-fired CHP generators with a combined capacity of 1,520 MW.

Furthermore, the generation site’s production serves as a proprietary input into Genscape’s CHP model for Germany. Genscape estimates real-time generation and provides a 14-day forecast for German CHP fleet aggregated by zone, fuel type, and technology. Genscape monitors Mannheim units by employing infrared cameras to capture thermal images that are sent to the Power RT interface. The images illustrate the stack of the unit in question and indicate whether the unit is operating.
