Diamonds Direct Partner Attends Leadership Convention on Fundraising for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) February 20, 2015 -- A partner from Diamonds Direct of Minneapolis, MN, was pleased to participate in this year's St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Committee Leadership Convention. Kristina Mahler, managing partner at Diamonds Direct, is on the Minneapolis chapter of the board for the hospital and attended the convention, which took place from Feb. 5 to 7, 2015 in Memphis, TN.
Mahler joined the board for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in November 2014 and wanted to attend this year's convention to see the hospital, which Diamonds Direct has raised money for in the past.
"It's one thing to raise money for something," Mahler said, "but it's a whole other thing to see what for and why you're raising it. In this case, seeing the children and the facility was very eye opening."
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is located in Memphis and is a leader in research and treatment for childhood cancer and other diseases. Their research has brought the childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80% in the past 50 years.
During the convention, Mahler was able to go on a tour of the hospital. She and other representatives from across the country then attended brainstorming sessions to determine how to raise more money for the hospital.
Mahler and other board members heard from several patients and their families about their experiences at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. They also met with one of the doctors and learned about the hospital's research and technology.
"I am proud to be part of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital family and be a part of a company that sponsors it," Mahler said. "Any technology or treatments discovered at St. Jude are automatically dispersed internationally so lives can be saved worldwide, as opposed to many other research hospitals that will keep their findings private so they can publish and take the credit for them.”
Mahler first got involved with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital though her company, Diamonds Direct. Diamonds Direct served as a sponsor for the local St. Jude Fall Festival of Hope in Minneapolis for the first time this past September.
Diamonds Direct, which sells custom designed engagement rings and other diamond jewelry, is pleased to be a local jewelry sponsor for future festivals. The company was part of live auction last year and plans to have even more of a presence this year.
"Service like that is part of the culture at Diamonds Direct," said Mahler. "Each of us at Diamonds Direct takes on a specific charity that we're passionate about," she explained, "and this one has become my 'baby.'"
After the event in the fall, Mahler was inspired to continue to help the organization. "Having a 10-month-old at home who is healthy and happy makes me want to pay it forward that much more and help those in need by contributing to research to cure any sick children out there," she said.
