Kawartha Vacations includes content on waterfront accommodations, area events, local attractions, shopping, conference venues, wedding facilities, spa services, golf courses, fishing, last minute vacation deals, and in general, it is a good source of local knowledge. The site’s new owners at First Page SEO plan to expand the site and invite guest writers to contribute to site content.

“We are very good at building and marketing tourism directories,” says Mark Coles, Owner of First Page SEO. “It is often difficult for non-profit groups and tourist associations to maintain and grow this type of directory over the long run. Because we already have the staff in-house to keep the sites fresh, and with our expertise in web marketing, we can make these directories grow and flourish. “Our first objective with the Kawartha Vacations site is to convert it to an HTML5 responsive layout so that it conforms to Google’s new requirement of sites being mobile friendly and achieving the mobile friendly Google icon on mobile search listings,” states Stephen Roome, President of First Page SEO. “This has to be done because on mobile searches, sites that are deemed mobile friendly by Google will have a placement advantage. Unfortunately, stand-alone mobile sites are relegated to the trash with Google's new preference. Once we have that done, we will focus on fresh content and reach out to existing and potential advertisers who can help support the site because it will bring them business. We don’t just want to build an Ontario-wide based tourism directory because a number of our existing clients already fill that niche. They are doing a pretty good job getting the word out regarding vacations and tourism in general in Ontario. I believe that regionally, we can do a much better job marketing tourism in Ontario. I like to think that inside Ontario, accommodation properties shouldn’t be competitors cannibalizing each other for business. We have to look at the big picture and bring new customers to Ontario and not just recycle those already vacationing inside the province. Our real competition over the long haul is not our tourism operator neighbours in Ontario, but the cruise ships, sun & sand vacation destinations and hundreds of other out of province tourism destinations. We need to work together to build awareness of tourist brands, attractions and accommodation venues and regional directories are a good foundation to make that happen,” explains Coles.
