The Sutter Club Hires Accomplished Sommelier, Jienna Basaldu

Sacramento's historical Sutter Club builds upon its superb culinary reputation with new Sommelier.

Jienna brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our dining and special event operations. She is a fantastic resource for members and guests who are seeking a truly incredible dining experience.

The Sutter Club, Sacramento’s preeminent private business and social club, has added Jienna Basaldu to its award-winning culinary and hospitality team. As Sommelier, Ms. Basaldu will help to provide a premier dining experience for members and guests while coordinating the wine lists and culinary pairings for private events and weddings hosted at the club.

Ms. Basaldu comes to The Sutter Club with an impressive set of qualifications. She is a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers, a Recognized Regional Wine Professional, and a Certified Specialist of Wine through the Society of Wine Educators. Building upon her accomplishments, Ms. Basaldu will begin coursework in March 2015 to prepare for her Advanced Sommelier Exam.

With a background in many facets of the beverage and hospitality industry, Ms. Basaldu is uniquely qualified for her new role at The Sutter Club. Most recently, she spent three years as Sommelier and Dining Room Manager for the Ella Dining and Bar. Prior, she served as a sales representative for Southern Wine and Spirits and obtained fine dining service skills in various establishments, including Michelin-starred Chez TJ in Mountain View.

In addition to her professional experience, Ms. Basaldu is actively involved in the robust local wine community, participating on the Sommelier team for both Farm-to-Fork Tower Bridge dinners and sitting on the judging panel for the California State Fair wine competition. Ms. Basaldu has also published in numerous trade publications, including the SOMM Journal.

Ms. Basaldu will work closely with The Sutter Club’s Executive Chef, Jack Kalustian, who helped pioneer the farm-to-table movement in Sacramento.
