When I was presented with the opportunity to help lead and develop a product that I so strongly believe in, I couldn’t say no.

T-System Inc. today announced the appointment of Janie Schumaker, RN, BSN, MBA, CEN, CPHQ, FABC as the company’s chief nursing officer along with a renewed commitment to clinically-focused innovation for unscheduled, episodic care.

“Today’s patients are demanding more immediate access to care, making episodic care settings including urgent care and freestanding emergency centers one of the fastest growing market segments in healthcare,” said Roger Davis, T-System’s chief executive officer. “We have a strong cross-functional leadership team that is committed to understanding the major pain points of this rapidly growing market and developing innovative solutions that effectively follow the patient through the care process.”

Schumaker is a prolific speaker, writer and advocate for nurse leadership, patient care, regulatory guidelines and clinical quality. She has over 25 years of experience in healthcare and most recently led emergent and urgent care services for Mosaic Life Care where she led a team that improved patient satisfaction from the 4th to the 90th percentile within two years. Schumaker currently serves as chairperson for the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) which continually evaluates and upgrades the certification exams for over 36,400 emergency nurses in the United States. She is also involved in several healthcare organizations including the Academy of Healthcare Executives, American Organization of Nurse Executives, Emergency Nurses Association and the Society of Trauma Nurses.

“I’ve spent most of my career inside emergent and urgent care facilities, and I can say with confidence that there are no other solutions on the market that come close to T-System. When I was presented with the opportunity to help lead and develop a product that I so strongly believe in, I couldn’t say no,” said Schumaker. “I’m also very passionate about building up and developing nurse leaders, and the strong clinical knowledge community within T-System will be a great way to advance this cause.”

In addition to the appointment of Schumaker as chief nursing officer, T-System has organized a new cross-functional team that will focus on innovative, integrated solutions for episodic care. This new group will be led by senior vice president and group general manager Mark Horner, most recently vice president and general manager of T-System’s charge capture and coding business, and backed by deep clinical expertise including two physician and two nurse executives.

“Clinical leadership has always been a strength for T-System and as a well-known leader in emergency nursing and the chairperson for the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing, I couldn’t imagine a better fit than Janie,” said Horner. “My team and I are planning to shake up the market by developing new and exciting ways to provide value and improve outcomes for the episodic care community.”
