Lifelong Education is the Theme of DOCS Education's 2015 Sedation Safety Week
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) February 27, 2015 -- A weeklong series of safety events and programs will mark the seventh annual Sedation Safety Week (SSW), presented by DOCS Education. The awareness-raising activities are designed to reinforce the dental profession’s commitment to constant vigilance on behalf of patient safety and comfort.
The theme of this year’s Sedation Safety Week will be lifelong education, in which dentists and their team members will be encouraged to go beyond the minimum continuing education requirements.
“Perpetual learning is more than advisable, it is an ethical imperative,” says Dr. Michael Silverman, founder and national chairman of Sedation Safety Week. “Each year the dental profession makes significant advances in our ability to safely, comfortably and effectively treat patients. All oral health professionals owe it to their patients to stay atop the learning curve,” Dr. Silverman adds.
Sedation dentistry has become the mainstream choice of fearful and anxious patients. In the U.S. alone, more than 90 million Americans suffer from some form of dental fear.
SSW activities, which take place each year beginning the Monday after daylight savings time, are always free and open to all oral health professionals.
This year’s daily schedule is:
Monday:
Learning Pathways – An exploration of the wide array of meaningful educational opportunities available to oral health professionals
Tuesday:
2nd Annual DOCS Education Dental Safety Scholarship Awards – Up to five $1,000 educational scholarships will be provided to dentists working in the nonprofit sector, including the military
Wednesday:
Sedation Safety Dentist of the Year Honors – A dentist who demonstrates a deep commitment to patient safety and comfort will be recognized.
Thursday:
Best Practices Using Capnography – Oral health teams will be provided the knowledge essential for utilizing this life-saving form of patient monitoring.
Friday:
2nd Annual Tooth Faire Open House – A joyful opportunity for dentists to open their doors to the community and help children form early, positive memories of visiting the dentist.
Dr. Silverman is one of the world’s leading educators of sedation dentists and a co-founder of DOCS Education. An outspoken advocate for patient safety and comfort, he launched SSW in March 2009. “We can never let our guard down when it comes to the safety and comfort of all patients,” he regularly reminds his colleagues.
