Emerald Coast Dentistry Now Places All Mercury-Free Fillings
Fort Walton Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 24, 2015 -- The office of Emerald Coast Dentistry in Ft Walton Beach, FL is now placing all mercury-free fillings.
A WebMD article, published June 5, 2008, states that, "Mercury from amalgam dental fillings may be toxic to children and developing fetuses, the FDA now admits.”
On its website, WebMD also states that the FDA has dropped much of its reassuring language about dental amalgam. And it's added what amounts to a warning: "Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses."
And there's more. "Pregnant women and persons who may have a health condition that makes them more sensitive to mercury exposure, including individuals with existing high levels of mercury bioburden, should not avoid seeking dental care, but should discuss options with their health practitioner," says the FDA.
Emerald Coast Dentistry is one of the first offices in Ft Walton Beach, FL to add an amalgam separator to the current vacuum pump system to eliminate the mercury and metals from the dental wastewater prior to the water going into the main water sewer for the area.
According to the American Dental Association, "Amalgam separators are devices designed to remove amalgam/mercury waste particles from dental office wastewater. Without an amalgam separator, these particles can be suctioned into the dental unit vacuum line and discharged into the public sewer system."
The ADA also states that "The effort to reduce amalgam waste discharge from the dental office stems from increasing pressure facing local wastewater treatment plants to reduce the concentration of mercury in effluent from their plants and minimize the concentration of mercury in sludge."
Emerald Coast Dentistry is proud to go above and beyond to protect their patients and the environment.
