The British Dyslexia Association estimates that dyslexia affects around 15% of population to a lesser or greater extent through the way information is processed, stored and retrieved, with problems of memory, speed of processing, time perception, organisation and sequencing. Firdevs Dede, a specialist dyslexia tutor who has met hundreds of dyslexic students since 2002, claims that dyslexia should not be an obstacle for a fulfilling and rewarding life. In fact, in her new book, “Dyslexia isn’t an Obstacle” (published by Xlibris), she demonstrates that the cognitive profile of a dyslexic person could be a gift rather than a disability.

“Dyslexia isn’t an Obstacle” sheds light on the daily realities of creative dyslexic people, inspiring those who are dyslexic and educating outsiders who are not familiar with dyslexia. This informative volume follows Felix, a dyslexic, who against all odds becomes a successful entrepreneur. There is humor, misfortune and ultimately triumph interwoven into the young man’s remarkable life.

“In my book I focus on what makes dyslexic people unique by highlighting their strengths,” Dede says, “I also illustrate how some of the linguistic problems could be dealt with, once new habits are developed using a systematic and comprehensive support program that I carefully design for my learners I work with.”

“Dyslexia isn’t an Obstacle” is an insightful and empowering book that will prove useful not just to dyslexics but those who want to understand this often misunderstood condition better.
