Ahern & Associates Podcasts Garner Industry Accolades for Vitality of Topics Covered
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) March 05, 2015 -- Founder and CEO of trucking consultation firm Ahern & Associates, Andy Ahern, offers podcasts via YouTube and on the official Ahern & Associates website on a regular basis to interested parties – and that following is expanding at a rapid pace.
As the trucking and transportation industry continues to face game-changing shifts, regulations, struggles, and challenges, more industry leaders than ever before are turning to Ahern’s podcasts for information on everything from industry updates and predictions to tips on preparing to sell. In the most recent podcasts by Ahern, Ahern discusses topics, such as driver recruiting / retention, e-logs, employee development, changing business practices, and when to “let go.”
In the podcast Listen to Your Managers, Ahern discusses the importance of owners listening to their employees and their managers. He notes that many problems in companies begin at the top, oftentimes with someone who does not recognize that he or she doesn’t have all the answers to all the problems. If an owner does not take in constructive criticism as necessary, owners will not be able to develop their businesses to their actual potential. He goes on to discuss accountability, encouraging communication, and why each time a manager or owner listens to people value is added to their companies. He also touches on why every owner needs help, no one can do everything themselves, and setting goals and objectives is key to keeping up with the industry.
Changing the Dynamics of Your Business is the title for the second recent Ahern & Associates podcast, in which Andy Ahern discusses stale processes, businesses, and systems. Ahern normally finds that these companies are those that are resisting change and resisting taking their business models and making them more responsive to growth. Creating your business is all about creating opportunities – not just for clients, but also for employees. Adapting to different environments is crucial, as is listening to prospects. To grow a business and increase profitability, owners need to look at compensation packages, bonuses, change the dynamics of recruiting, set goals and objectives with marketing departments, change up the company’s website, and more. The key is as owners want to grow their businesses, they need to change their models as the times change.
The podcast titled When is it the Time to Sell? is one in which Andy Ahern offers ideas, suggestions, and information to support his main idea that the time to sell is when an owner is ready. Expectations must be in line, and the seller must be emotionally, operationally and financially ready. Most executives do not have an exit plan – every owner needs a plan and to be mentally prepared to let go. He also explains his thoughts on why preparing to exit a business for an owner is like planning his or her own funeral. Other dynamics and factors should be considered only when a seller is ready. If an owner has something to sell and is mentally prepared, the time may be right to discuss with a potential buyer the idea of letting go.
In Driver Recruitment/Retention, Ahern explains that he receives hundreds of phone calls and emails asking for his advice on this subject. He imparts to viewers his ideas on the driver capacity shortage and other issues companies face, and explains that today, owners need to do things differently than they have in the past in order to not just to recruit but to retain drivers as well. He suggests owners and managers take a look at their recruiters – they often need to change the mindset of those recruiters. In addition, looking at dispatch, thought processes often need to be redesigned. Ahern describes how changing processes is vital, from changing websites to changing the way communication with drivers happens, whether it be by text message or cell phone, when necessary. Driver appreciation is important as part of owners re-creating their brands.
