Galvanize Hosts First Annual g|HACK, a 24-Hour Hackathon Supporting Women in Tech
Denver, CO (PRWEB) March 01, 2015 -- Today Galvanize announced the inaugural g|Hack, a 24-hour hackathon to be held Friday March 27th at 5pm MST through Saturday March 28th at 5pm MST. The event will happen simultaneously across four Galvanize campuses, with participants tackling three challenges whose solutions will ultimately create more and better access for tech education. Each team will have at least one female participant, and 100% of all proceeds raised from the event will go to Women Who Code, a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers.

Galvanize and Women Who Code are dedicated to creating access and opportunities for underrepresented groups to change their lives and make an impact in the tech industry. Their pre-existing strategic partnership has helped bring more women into tech, specifically through a full scholarship for a woman to attend one of Galvanize’s gSchool programs, the 6-month Full-Stack Web Development Immersive Course. Galvanize hopes to raise $50,000 at the Hackathon for Women Who Code.

Money raised from the Hackathon will remain in the hands of local Women Who Code Networks in Denver/Boulder, Fort Collins and San Francisco, so those regional leaders can utilize and distribute the funds for maximum impact: for increased regional marketing, for local large-scale events and scholarship opportunities to introductory programming workshops at Galvanize campuses.
Participants in g|Hack will choose one of three education challenges to solve with a technical solution. They will have 24-hours to create an application, website, or a piece of software that makes it easier for female entrepreneurs to run a business. Each team must have at least one participant who is a woman. Over 400 participants are expected across all four campuses.
