Oaks Christian Online High School Director to Speak at OESIS International Conference for Independent Schools
Westlake Village, CA (PRWEB) March 11, 2015 -- Oaks Christian Online (OCO) School’s Director, Vicki Conway, will speak at the Online Educator’s Symposium for Independent Schools (OESIS) at Eton College in Windsor on March 25, 2015. Vicki will speak to a group of independent school leaders from the UK and US about a sustainable blended and fully-online learning program. Oaks Christian online high school is part of the acclaimed Oaks Christian main campus in Westlake Village, CA, and since the online high school’s inception in 2010, OCO has been in a unique position to understand how high school main campuses use blended and fully-online high school classes to facilitate sustainability and flexibility for its students. Also, the online high school has seen growth in its full-time student enrollment from around the world and the accompanying accreditations of its comprehensive, full-time program. Last year, OCO received NCAA approval for all online high school courses towards student athlete eligibility, and they also received University of California approval for all core courses, including online lab sciences. Vicki will speak to this group about some of the hallmarks of a college-preparatory online school, such as college counseling, AP and high-level course offerings, proctored exams and access to teachers in live, online sessions. Vicki says, “OCO has worked hard to align our online course offerings with the main campus, and we’re seeing the results in our student learning outcomes; 100% of our online seniors have been accepted to 4-year colleges and universities. I’m looking forward to talking with global independent school leaders about how we’re using technology and online courses.”
Since 2013, the Online Educator’s Symposium for Online Schools (OESIS) has served over 350 independent schools in regional symposiums in Boston, Santa Monica, London and Hong Kong. The organization has also published the 2014-2015 Online Blended Learning Report where 450 independent schools were surveyed on such topics as drivers and barriers to blended learning adoption in US independent schools and what can we learn from schools who are early online adopters. OESIS and Oaks Christian Online high school share a dedication to the independent school model. There are over 2,000 independent schools in the United States alone. Although these schools vary greatly in mission, according to the National Association for Independent Schools (NAIS) they tend to focus on high academic standards and low class sizes; they invest in excellent teachers and often see high levels of parent involvement, and they form an inclusive community that educates the whole child and often results in higher levels of college matriculation and college success.
