The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Oregon and SW Washington Chapter Kicks Off Their Eleventh Annual Man, Woman & Student of the Year Campaign
Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) March 03, 2015 -- Man, Woman & Student of the Year engages influential, compassionate community leaders to help find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients, and improve the quality of life for patents and their families. Through this annual national ten-week campaign, individuals can have a maximum impact in the fight for a world without blood cancers. The national titles will be awarded to the top fundraisers in the country, to be announced this summer. To date, these dedicated leaders have helped LLS invest almost $1 billion in research to advance breakthrough therapies that are saving lives today.
"I am honored to be nominated as a candidate for the 2015 Man & Woman of the Year fundraising campaign benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," says nominee Lisa Sienkiewicz. "As a member of the Avamere Family of Companies, a healthcare organization based in Wilsonville, Oregon, I witness every day the impact an unexpected diagnosis has on our patients and families. As a mother of two amazing girls, I am touched by the stories of courage from the young boys and girls affected by blood cancers. I am grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness and financial support."
The 10 week competition began with a Kick-Off Celebration on February 26th. Candidates compete for the titles in honor of the Boy and Girl of the Year, local children who are survivors of blood cancers and who are a source of inspiration. Every dollar raised counts as one vote. The male and female candidates with the most votes locally will be crowned “2015 Man & Woman of the Year,” at the Gala of Hope Celebration at downtown Hilton on May 9, 2015, and will also be considered for the national titles. The student with the most votes will receive a $1,000 scholarship in addition to being crowned the local”2015 Student of the Year”.
