“Stand Up, Step Up, Speak Up!” Says New ICBA Chairman Jack Hartings at ICBA National Convention
Orlando, Fla. (PRWEB) March 05, 2015 -- Independent Community Bankers of America® (ICBA) Chairman Jack A. Hartings told community bankers gathered at ICBA’s 2015 national convention, ICBA Community Banking LIVE ®, that encouraging fellow community bankers to be engaged and dedicated to the community banking industry is his top priority in the year ahead.
“Pledge to do what you can for your industry and for your community to create an environment where community banking can flourish,” the president and CEO of The Peoples Bank Co. in Coldwater, Ohio, said.“I ask each and every one of you to pledge to do your part in promoting community banking through your actions.”
Hartings, who became ICBA chairman on Wednesday, encouraged his fellow community bankers to stand up, step up and speak up on behalf of the community banking industry. “Recent regulatory and advocacy-related victories that ICBA and community banks have achieved are because community bankers stand together,” Hartings told the audience.
Hartings encouraged community bankers to contact or visit with their members of Congress and advocate for the community banking industry. He also encouraged them to mentor emerging community bank leaders to help grow and promote the industry.
“This is your industry—you live it every day—so don’t let someone else tell your legislators about it. You are our best advocate,” Hartings said. “Together let’s push back that boulder of burdensome regulation, unfair competition, and onerous regulatory oversight. To accomplish our goals, we need everyone involved and doing their part, because by working together, ordinary people can achieve extraordinary results.”
