The Elms Assisted Living Celebrates 30 Years in Business in Coastal New England
Westerly, RI (PRWEB) March 06, 2015 -- According to statistics compiled by the Small Business Association, eight out of ten new businesses fail within the first three years of operation. Guy Maiorano, founder and owner of The Elms Assisted Living in Rhode Island, says he is honored to be celebrating 30 years in business.
“I can’t believe it’s been 30 years,” Maiorano said. “I was 28 years old when I opened The Elms with only three residents. All these years later, after expanding nine times, I couldn’t be more proud of my staff and company.”
What makes The Elms Assisted Living different from other senior living communities in the area is The Elms has always been been privately owned and operated, not a publicly traded large corporation. Maiorano notes “We’re able to offer a lower monthly price, better staffing ratios, and a stable team of tenured, service-focused employees for the 130 residents on our three building campus.”
The Elms main building provides independent seniors with a full menu of amenity services, social engagements, and wellness programs. The latest feature added to The Elms, Guy continues, is “our new one-bedroom, 700 square-foot apartments which are beautifully appointed and offer luxury at affordable rates” all set in a gracious Victorian neighborhood near downtown Westerly on the Connecticut border.
Also unique in coastal Rhode Island is the extended campus, which offers a continuum of care for seniors who suffer from the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias, with two dedicated memory care communities, The Carriage House and Chestnut Cottage.
When The Elms opened in 1985 as a “sheltered care facility” with only 12 rooms and 3 residents, Guy Maiorano never imagined the premiere community The Elms Assisted Living would become. “Residents and their families in our area requested even more amenities and services and we responded, creating and opportunity for us to grow and flourish,” Guy recalls. “No doubt that’s why we’re still here after 30 years!
