After the Cajon Pass accident that occurred near midnight on June 24, 2014, billion dollar law firms GIRARDI|KEESE and Panish Shea & Boyle LLP have filed lawsuits on March 5, in Superior Court, County of San Bernardino, on behalf of a car full of accident victims. The five young people, all under twenty-one years of age, were in a PT Cruiser when it was struck by an out-of-control dump truck weighted down with an 80,000 lb. load of wet cement. When the truck's brakes failed, the truck driver ran a stop sign and collided into Lyle's PT Cruiser on Highway 138 in Phelan.18-year-old Nicole Brittney Lyle and 16-year-old John Anthony Cabrera, Jr. died at the scene; Mikey Baker, Shane Gretzner and David Castaneda were injured. Sonja A. Meeks (AKA Sonja Aida Morris Meeks), who was unhurt, was the driver of the Samms Enterprises truck, and working as an agent of the California Department of Transportation on the 1-15 Cajon Pass Rehabilitation Project at the time of the incident. *All of these details are outlined in court documents.
"Runaway trucks like the one at this location are too common occurrences on steep highways," said attorney David R. Lira. "There are designs and devices which could have prevented this tragedy. Sadly, at this intersection, witnesses have confirmed numerous similar instances of runaway vehicles with deadly consequences." Lira is not the only G|K attorney who believes that effective safety measures could have prevented this tragic accident.
Founding partner, Thomas V.Girardi, dubbed "The Billion Dollar Gentleman" by the Los Angeles Daily Journal, said of the devastating tragedy to the community, 'We hope that this lawsuit will bring about much needed change not only to a dangerous roadway, but also to the way that Caltrans and its contractors reconstruct our highways." Justice and safety are primary goals for the G|K law firm. Girardi is most proud of "the work we do for our clients. No doubt about it. We have put together the greatest group of lawyers I've ever seen. And we all work our tails off to ensure everyone gets the justice they deserve."
The law firm of GIRARDI|KEESE has successfully recovered in excess of three billion dollars on behalf of their clients. Thomas V.Girardi was proclaimed "The Billion Dollar Gentleman" by the Los Angeles Daily Journal after having achieved over $1 billion in verdicts and settlements over a two-year period.
