Michigan State men’s golf team will spend the start to its spring break week in South Carolina, hosting the third-annual Colleton River Collegiate Monday-Tuesday, March 9-10 at the Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, S.C.
The tournament will be held on both the Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus Courses, competition will begin with 36 holes on Monday, March 9 at the Jack Nicklaus Course, before concluding with 18 holes on the Pete Dye Course Tuesday. Both days will begin at 8:30 a.m. The public is welcome to attend.
“Colleton River is a special place. The beauty, design, and atmosphere of the club make it memorable for all. We are fortunate to have their support to host a top-tier collegiate event,” said Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn. “Both courses at Colleton River will be a great test of golf for all participants and will reward those teams and individuals that play with precision patience and toughness.”
Joining the Spartans in the field will be Boston College, College of Charleston, Connecticut, Creighton, DePaul, Detroit, Drake, Miami (Ohio), Oakland, Rutgers, South Dakota State, Tennessee and Xavier.

Last season, Winthrop captured the Colleton River Collegiate title with the Spartans finishing in third. The Eagles Zach Seabolt and MSU’s Charlie Netzel shared medalist honors last season.
Located along the Atlantic Ocean in Bluffton, the Colleton River Plantation Club, will host the 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. Colleton River is a 1,500 acre, member-owned golf community that is surrounded on three sides by water. The Pete Dye Course, which opened in 1998, is a links-type course with unobstructed views of Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean on 11 of 18 holes.
In addition to the future hosting of the U.S. Junior Amateur, Colleton River’s Pete Dye Course has hosted eight USGA qualifiers since 2005, including three U.S. Opens, four U.S. Amateurs and one U.S. Senior Open. Also, the course has held the 2001 and 2011 South Carolina Amateur Championship.
