Celeste Thorson to Deliver Keynote Speech for UN Women SoCal Intl. Women's Day Celebration.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 08, 2015 -- Actress and activist Celeste Thorson will be the keynote speaker at the UN Women International Women’s Day Celebration by the Southern California Chapter of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The event will take place Sunday, March 8th, 2015 from 11am to 4:30 at Clubhouse 6 in Laguna Woods, CA. Thorson will also connect with a global audience of women's rights supporters online, using the hashtags: #IntlWomensDay #UNWomen #SupportHeForShe #DearMe #SheInspiresMe
Thorson will join local artists, poets, and speakers like Polina Hyrn, Sandy Giedeman, Ruth Bavetta, Sherryan Lima, Ulla Barr, Karen Kyster, Linnea Lenkus and several others to share their experience and expertise about women's rights and equality.
"It is our freedom of expression that makes all of these goals possible." said Thorson. "So that we can go out confidently into the world and make new discoveries, solve problems, dream bigger and share that education with each other."
The United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, to work towards the "achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security."
The UN has contributed to the advancement of gender equality, through influential agreements such as the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
The Southern California Chapter International Women’s Day Celebration will take place in Clubhouse 6, 24061 Algarrobo, Laguna Woods. The cost is $39, $29 for senior citizens and $19 for students. Lunch will be served and a silent auction of artwork from the many artists from fine art photography, to sculptures, to jewelry will be offered.
