Iowa Technology & Education Connection Awards Special Monetary Educational Grants In Iowa
Des Moines, Iowa (PRWEB) March 09, 2015 -- Iowa Technology & Education Connection (ITEC) in collaboration with Mediacom Business today announced the funding of special state-wide monetary educational grants awarded to Meeker Elementary School in Ames; Manson Northwest Webster Elementary School in Barnum; and Edwards Elementary School in Ames.
In making the announcement, ITEC Executive Director Jeff Sypersma said, “While ITEC has spent the past 45 years supporting its members by providing conferences where educators shared new ideas, this funding of state-wide educational grants by Mediacom Business has allowed us to do even more. Understanding their commitment to education, especially in rural America, we’re excited for this partnership, and thankful for their benevolence.”
Dan Templin, Senior Vice President of Mediacom Business, said the ITEC’s initiative is in line with his company’s commitment to providing schools in rural America with access to high capacity broadband via the company’s robust fiber-optic network. “These grant awards are intended to assist teachers in using technology to support learning in their classrooms. Grant recipients will use these funds to purchase hardware, software, online subscriptions, or computing peripherals to make their plans a reality.”
Grant applications were completed by classroom teachers in cooperation with school district technology directors and administrators. Award recipients were selected by ITEC based on merit.
Mediacom Business has earned a reputation for providing broadband access to schools in rural America, enabling them to use advanced services like e-learning and distance learning platforms.
Their Gigabit+ Fiber Solutions enable over 850 K-12 schools, community colleges, and university locations in Iowa to integrate technology into the curriculum at speeds of up to 8 Gigabits per second, according to Mr. Templin.
