CMS Advanced Provider Screening Solution Wins Federal Health IT Innovation Award; TurningPoint Wins in Big Data Category
Rockville, MD (PRWEB) March 10, 2015 -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid’s (CMS) Advanced Provider Screening (APS) solution has been named the winner of the Federal Health IT (FHIT) Innovation award in the Big Data category. The award was presented on March 4, 2015 at the Federal Health IT awards ceremony held at 1776, a venture capital firm, in Washington, DC. The event was sponsored by G2XchangeHealth, an online community platform developed to provide business intelligence for the federal health IT community.
The FHIT Innovation Awards are determined by a panel of judges that include government and industry leaders who evaluate and choose winners from dozens of award applications. The primary focus of the awards is on the results achieved.

The APS system is a fraud-prevention solution which leverages a variety of commercial and government data sources (such as provider licensing and criminal history) to systematically prevent ineligible providers from enrolling in the Medicare and Medicaid systems. It has been in use by CMS since 2012.
CMS estimates that the APS system is responsible for revoking approximately 8,000+ ineligible providers annually from the Medicare Program, saving several hundred million annually in tax payer dollars in the process.
