Macecraft Software has released an unprecedented benchmark test that covers 133 different software products claimed to make Windows PCs work faster. The rigorous testing shows that only some can deliver actual improvements to computer performance while others offer surprising results.

Macecraft Software released an unprecedented benchmark test covering a total of 133 different Windows optimization products claiming to make Windows PCs work faster. The products were put through rigorous testing and the effects they had on computer’s performance were measured.

“Nothing like this has ever been done before, not with these testing methods and not on this scale,” said Jouni Flemming, Vice President of Macecraft Software. “This has been very exciting to be able to introduce this to the public so they are aware of what software is good and what actually slows down a PC.”

In the study, computers running Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 (Technical Preview) operating systems were tested. The performance of each computer was measured before and after installing popular Windows software and again after running downloaded products which claimed to improve the computer’s performance.

The computer performance was measured using two different methods. Initially, the startup time of how many seconds it took for Windows to start up and fully load the Windows desktop was tested. After that, PCMark 7 benchmark software was used to evaluate the overall speed of the computer.

The products that claimed to improve Windows startup time were able to make Windows to start an average of 28 seconds faster. The average improvement of the overall computer performance was more varied with an average improvement of only 49 benchmark points – a speed increase of only 0.84 percent. However, some products were able to increase the overall system performance as much an average of 13 percent across all the test computers.

“As an end user of many different types of software, I find myself sick and tired of fake reviews and affiliate link-infested comparisons that bring no real value towards informed end user decision making when spending the extra dollar on your PC’s performance,” said Mihai Barbulescu, Director of Online Sales and Marketing at Macecraft Software. "We decided its time to separate facts from marketing talk and see if these products can really live up to their claim.”

The study, alongside with screenshots and screen capture videos showing all the benchmarks that were performed, are published at
