Magma Unveils Modular High Performance Computing Expansion Chassis
San Diego, California (PRWEB) March 11, 2015 -- Magma, which manufactures high performance expansion computing solutions, today introduced its ExpressBox 3450 Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe) expansion system. The EB3450, tuned specifically for GPU-based applications, features dedicated and adjustable cooling, support for contemporary GPU power needs, system manageability and the company’s industry leading PCIe Gen 3 I/O technology.
Modularity is added when the EB3450 is paired with Magma’s recently launched ExpressBox 2400 and ExpressBox 3400. These chassis offer different configurations that can be combined, two per rack shelf, to allow tuned data center server applications. The EB 3450 also supports a desktop configuration, which is ideal for using with professional grade workstations. With the ability to select fan speeds for specific GPU requirements, the EB 3450 can be tailored for workplace environments that are noise sensitive.
“We wanted to develop a flexible 4U ecosystem for our customer base,” said Tim Miller, Magma president. “By offering a variety of expansion configurations, now including HPC with the EB 3450, our customers can efficiently tune their solution to the exact needs of their applications.”
The EB3450 uses Magma’s high performance PCIe Gen 3 x16 backplane, host cards and cabling, and shares many of the same features as Magma’s flagship EB3600 HPC platform. Magma expects the EB3450 to be used in a variety of applications, including media and entertainment, big data analysis, oil and gas exploration, finance, virtualization, defense and aerospace.
The EB3450 is 20” L x 8.5” W x 7.25” H, and is populated with a six slot backplane, having one slot occupied by the host adapter interface card. Up to four doublewide 300W GPUs or five total peripherals are supported as expansion. Power is supplied by dual 1200W watt power supplies, isolated underneath the chassis backplane to allow for unobstructed cooling airflow between the system fans and peripheral cards. Cooling is provided by dual 92 mm fans for peripherals up to 300W each.
Magma will be showing the EB3450 at GTC 2015, in the San Jose Convention Center in booth 828. For further inquiries, please visit Magma.com/support.
Product availability is in 2Q 2015.
