Alliance for Strong Families and Communities Earns Well Workplace Designation from Wellness Council of America
Milwaukee, WI (PRWEB) March 13, 2015 -- In recognition of its commitment to protecting and enhancing the health and well-being of its employees, the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities was recently named one of only 71 organizations nationwide to earn a national Well Workplace designation from the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA) and its local affiliate the Wellness Council of Wisconsin.
The Alliance, a nonprofit organization whose national operations center is located in Milwaukee, earned a “gold” status from WELCOA and the Wellness Council of Wisconsin by successfully building comprehensive worksite wellness initiatives and demonstrating and documenting concrete outcomes and other activities under seven benchmarks established by WELCOA.
WELCOA is one of North America’s most trusted voices on worksite wellness. With more than 5,000 member organizations and more than two decades of experience, WELCOA is the most respected resource for workplace wellness in America. WELCOA developed the Well Workplace Awards initiative to advance an aggressive national worksite wellness agenda. The Wellness Council of Wisconsin was founded in 1985 by nine employers from the Wisconsin business community.
The Alliance’s Wellness Connections committee, made up of nine employees, oversees wellness activities with the full support of the executive leadership team. In addition to a yearly health assessment for all employees, wellness efforts of the Alliance include an annual wellness fair, three weekly onsite exercise classes, team sponsorship for the annual Hank Aaron State Park Run and Walk, walks led by executive-level management, healthy cooking demonstrations, personal wellness challenges, and free employee access to a 230 InBody body composition analysis administered by the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee.
These and other activities at the Alliance met the Well Workplace Awards set of criteria:
• Capturing CEO support
• Creating cohesive wellness teams
• Collecting data to drive health efforts
• Crafting an operating plan
• Choosing appropriate interventions
• Creating a supporting environment
• Consistently evaluating outcomes
