Tom Carter, a managing partner of Fountain Partners based in San Francisco, Calif., will discuss the sustainability of various alternative financing sectors during a panel session at the IMN-ELFA Investor Conference in New York City today.

Fountain Partners specializes in equipment leasing for venture, growth and expansion-stage businesses nationwide. Carter will be joined on the panel by senior executives from DBRS, Financial Institutions Consulting, Atalaya Capital, and DZ Bank AG. The panel will provide an overview of sources of alternative financing including merchant cash advances, short-term business loans, direct lending, peer-to-peer financing and shadow banking that is tailored to small and mid-size enterprises.

Panel topics will center on ways that alternative financing helps small businesses lower their start-up costs and what makes this sector attractive to investors. Carter will point to some of the potential risks inherent in this sector while the panelists plan to stimulate discussion on how investors are participating in this market.

This is Carter’s first appearance at the annual one-day event that attracted several hundred investors and finance executives last year. The event, now in its 14th year, is sponsored by IMN and the Washington, D.C.-based Equipment Leasing and Finance Association.
